Range 5 at 9:00 am on Sunday March 23rd
The 600 Yard Benchrest folks will be holding a benchrest clinic on March 23rd, we hope you will join us. Topics of the clinic will include:
- Review of the different classes of rifles we shoot in competition: traditional benchrest, tactical, factory, and gas operated. And a brief review of specific rules for each rifle class.
- Demonstration of how the match is shot (bring hearing protection).
- Reloading techniques for benchrest level accuracy.
- Suggestions on how to tune your loads for best accuracy.
New for this year we are adding a gas operated rifle class. The permitted rifles are AR-15’s and AR-10’s. With a good barrel and tuned reloads these rifles are capable of incredible accuracy—1/2 to 1 MOA accuracy should be expected. Note that our first match this year will be on May 25th. If you think you might want to participate in this match, please bring your AR and some ammo to the Clinic. The intention of the clinic is to help our AR shooters get a good 600 yard zero, and to demonstrate a level of accuracy that you will be able to get all your shots on your own 24”x24” target.
If you plan to shoot your AR, bring your rifle, ammo, a front rest, a sandbag rear rest, chamber flag, and hearing and eye protection. We will have spotting scopes at the range.
The basic rules on AR configuration are: 5.56 or 7.62 caliber, any scope, any safe trigger, and rifle weight 27 pounds maximum. Any stock configuration is allowed, but we suggest the use of an A2 butt stock because it will ride the rear sandbag better.
We hope to see you at the range!
